FES
stands for Functional Electrical Stimulation, a rehabilitation technique where electrical current stimulates nerves to evoke
muscle contractions. With the RT300-S, electrical stimulation is used to create patterned movement of the
legs, enabling muscles to perform cycling work even though the user may have lost voluntary control of those muscles. The
system uses a device, called the Cycle Ergometer that measures the amount of work done by a muscle or group of muscles. This
allows the user to participate in both passive and active therapy. Passive therapy is when your arms or legs are moved mechanically, for instance by the motor
of an Ergometer. Active therapy is when your muscles are doing the work and completing movements under your
own control or activated by FES.
Benefits of using the FES-RT300 Cycle: Relaxes muscle spasms,
Minimizes muscles atrophy, Improves blood circulation, Maintains or increases range of motion
The set-up
for using the RT300-S is very simple. There
is no transfer necessary as you pedal from you wheelchair. Your feet are secured in the pedals and your legs are supported
with the leg guides. Surface electrodes
are placed on your quadriceps, hamstring and gluteal muscles, and then connected by a cable to the bike. A computer controls
the stimulation patterns being sent to your legs, producing a smooth pedaling motion. And you are on your way.
RT300-S
has a touch-sensitive controller screen that makes it easy to start and monitor you therapy. The touch-sensitive, full-color controller screen and
software defaults make the initial set-up fast and simple. In fact, you’ll be able to start therapy in only minutes.
You can quickly evaluate your stimulation level, speed, distance, power, resistance and time remaining. The system is monitored
by an internet connection so you can control and monitor your progress using the bike over the web. This assists you in optimizing
your results no matter where you live.
Do
not worry… RT300-S has unique safety features for a safe ride:
• Automatic speed control
• Automatic
stimulation control
• Fatigue detection
• Spasm detection
• Electrode monitoring
• Wheelchair restraints
•
Internet connection
